- Then issue your password in the field.
- Then click on the ‘Login’ button.
Forgotten or Reset UWA Webmail password
If you cannot log in to student Connect, first check you are using the right username (your UWA student ID number) and Pheme password. If you forgot your password, reset it using the ‘Forgot Password’ link on the Pheme web page. And if you haven’t yet activated your Pheme password, select ‘Activate’ on the Pheme web page.

How to Activate or Open your new Pheme account?
- If you are a new student you will need to activate your new account.
- During the activation process you will be asked for your student number and your date of birth.
- Choose ‘I agree’ option after you have read the terms and conditions.
- You will then be asked to select and enter two ‘Challenge Questions and Answers’.
- A challenging question and answer is a useful level of security that personally uses meaningful information.
- To easily reset your password, you’ll need to know your challenge questions and their answers.
- A challenge answer is not case sensitive, but it must be six or more characters long and may contain letters numbers, spaces and special characters.
- After entering your challenge questions and their answers, scroll to the next fields on the screen where you must create a Pheme password.
- This password must be an upper character and a combination of upper and lower case letters.
- Click on the submit button to activate your Pheme account.
UWA Pheme account Logging in
If you have trouble logging in to Pheme, you should first check that you have activated your new account.
You forgot your password, you can reset it if you have your challenge questions and their answers.
If you are still having problems logging in, please contact the support staff or visit us in person at information desks in any of the subject libraries.
How to Change UWA Pheme account password?
For security reasons, you will need to change or reset your password every six months. You will be notified by your student email address when your password is about to expire.
Log in to Pheme with your student number and your current password. If you do not remember your password, you can reset it using the Reset Existing Password utility.
- To change your password, log in to Pheme.
- Click on the ‘Menu’ icon in the top-right, and select the ‘Change password’ option.
- Enter in your current Pheme password.
- Enter in your new password.
- Re-enter the new password to confirm that you typed it correctly.
- You cannot use any of your last five passwords.
Forgotten Pheme passwords
If you forgot your password, can you ‘forget’ or reset using the expired password? option link below the login boxes on the Pheme website.
You will be asked with both of your challenge questions, and will need to provide appropriate answers for both. You can set a new password as soon as you enter the correct answers to your challenge questions.
If you haven’t set up challenge questions, or you don’t remember your challenge answers, you’ll need to visit a subject library information desk. Please bring a photo ID with you, such as your UWA campus card, your driver’s license or your passport.
How to Change your challenge questions and answers?
Your challenge questions and answers are used to identify you when resetting your existing password. You should choose challenge questions and answers that are only meaningful to you and cannot be guessed, or found by others. To change your challenge questions and answers:
- Log in to Pheme.
- Click on the ‘Menu’ icon in the upper-right and select the ‘Change Reset Challenge’ option.
- Select a challenge question from the drop down list.
- Enter the answer to your chosen challenge question.
- Enter your Pheme password.
- Select ‘Submit’.
How to Setup UWA Students Email on Apple Mail?
To access your UWA student email via Apple Mail, you must enable IMAP.
Check IMAP is enabled
- Sign in to your UWA student email via webmail.
- Click on the cog icon at the top right corner of the mailbox and select ‘Settings’ from the drop down menu.
- Click ‘Forwarding and POP/IMAP’.
- Select ‘Enable IMAP’.
- Press ‘Save Changes’.
Configuring Apple Mail
- First Open Apple Mail.
- If this is your first time using Apple Mail, the account creation window will open automatically.
- If not, click ‘Mail’, and select ‘Preferences’.
- Then open the ‘Accounts’ tab and click the plus sign (+) at the bottom to add a new account.
– Username: Enter your name in the ‘Full Name’ field.
– Email Address: Enter your student email address in the ‘Email Address’ field.
– Email: Choose your student email address is your student number ‘@student.uwa.edu.au’.
– Password: Enter your Pheme password in the ‘Password’ field. - Click ‘Continue’.
- On the ‘Incoming Mail Server’ page, enter the following settings:
– Server Type: Select ‘IMAP’ as the account type.
– Description: Enter ‘UWA Student Email’ as the ‘Description’
– IMAP server: Type ‘imap.gmail.com’ into the Incoming Mail Server field.
– Student Email address: Ensure the ‘Username’ is your UWA Student Email address, not just your student number.
– Password: Enter your Pheme password in the ‘Password’ field. - Click ‘Continue’
- On the ‘Outgoing Mail Server’ page, enter the following details:
– SMTP server: Type ‘smtp.gmail.com’ into the ‘Incoming Mail Server’ field.
– Check-box: Tick ‘Use Authentication’.
– Student Email Address: Ensure the ‘Username’ is your UWA Student Email Address, not just your student number.
– Password: Enter your Pheme password in the ‘Password’ field. - Click ‘Continue’
- Check that the details on the ‘Account Summary’ page are correct:
– SSL certificate: Ensure ‘SSL’ is ‘on’ for both the Incoming and Outgoing Mail Servers. - Click ‘Create’.
- Your mail should now start downloading to Apple Mail.
Setup and Configure UWA Students Email on iOS
To access your UWA student email via mail on iOS, you must enable IMAP.
Check IMAP is enabled
- Sign in to your UWA student email via webmail.
- Click the cog icon in the upper right corner of the mailbox and select ‘Settings’ from the drop down menu.
- Click ‘Forwarding and POP/IMAP’.
- Select ‘Enable IMAP’.
- Select ‘Save Changes’.
Configuring Mail on iOS
- Open ‘Settings’ by tapping on the cog icon.
- Scroll down and select ‘Mail, Contacts, Calendars’.
- Tap on ‘Add Account’.
- Select ‘Google’ as the account type.
- On the next page, enter your student’s email address, e.g. Username @student.uwa.edu.au.
- Tap ‘Next’.
- You will be taken to the UWA Single Sign-On page.
- Enter your Student Number and Pheme password.
- Tap ‘Login’.
- Once your account has been verified you will be prompted to choose which features you would like to enable.
- Make sure ‘Mail’ is set to ‘On’. they recommend you also set ‘Calendars’ to ‘On’ so you can use Student calendaring.
- You can come back and change these settings later if you wish.
- Tap ‘Save’.
- You will be notified that your account has been added successfully and returned to the ‘Mail, Contacts, Calendars’ page, which will now display your UWA Student Email account.
- If required, you can edit your account information and settings by tapping on the account name.
- To access your email, open the ‘Mail’ app.
- Select ‘UWA Student Email’ from under the ‘Accounts’ heading.
Setup and Configure UWA Email on Outlook 2011
To access your UWA Student Email through Mail on Outlook 2011, you will need IMAP enabled.
Check IMAP is enabled
- Sign in to your UWA student email via webmail.
- Click the cog icon in the upper right corner of the mailbox and select ‘Settings’ from the drop down menu.
- Click ‘Forwarding and POP/IMAP’.

- Open Outlook 2011 for Mac.

- Under ‘Add an account’, choose ‘Email account’.
- Enter your personal information details following:
– Name: Enter your UWA Student email address in the ‘Email address’ field.
– Email address: Enter your email address is your student number ‘@student.uwa.edu.au’.
– Password: Enter your Pheme password in the ‘Password’ field. - Once you have typed in your email address, the rest of the settings will appear.
- Enter your IMAP server information details following:
– Username: Ensure the ‘Username’ is your UWA student email address, not just your student number.
– Server Type: Select ‘IMAP’ from the ‘Type’ drop down box.
– IMAP server: Enter ‘imap.gmail.com’ in the ‘Incoming server’ field.
– SSL certificate: Ensure ‘Use SSL’ is checked. - Enter your SMTP server information details following:
– SMTP server: Enter ‘smtp.gmail.com’ in the ‘Outgoing server’ field.
– Port number: Ensure ‘Override default port’ is checked, and enter ‘465’ in the next box.
– SSL certificate: Ensure ‘Use SSL to connect’ to connect is checked. - Click ‘Add account’.
- You will be returned to the settings page.
- Click on ‘More Options’.
- Select ‘Use incoming server info’ in the drop down menu next to ‘Authentication’.
- Click ‘OK’.
- You are done! You can now close the ‘Accounts’ window and After a moment your emails will start to download.
How to Setup and Configure UWA Email on Outlook 2013?
To access your UWA Student Email through Mail on Outlook 2013, you will need IMAP enabled.
Check IMAP is enabled
- Sign in to your UWA student email via webmail.
- Click the cog icon in the upper right corner of the mailbox and select ‘Settings’ from the drop down menu.
- Click ‘Forwarding and POP/IMAP’.
- Select ‘Enable IMAP’.

Configuring Outlook 2013
- Open Outlook.
- If you’ve already set up an email account on Outlook: Click ‘File’.
- Then click ‘Add Account’.
- If you’ve never set up an email account on Outlook: Check the ‘Yes’ option.
- Click ‘Next’.
- Select the ‘Manual setup or additional server types’ option.
- Click ‘Next’.
- Select the option ‘POP or IMAP’.
- Click ‘Next’.
- Enter your User Information details below:
– Name: Enter the name you want to appear on your emails in the ‘Your Name’ field.
– Email Address: Enter your student email address in the ‘Email address’ field. Your student email address is your student number ‘@student.uwa.edu.au’. - Enter your Server Information details below:
– Server Type: Select ‘IMAP’ as the ‘Account Type’.
– IMAP server: Type ‘imap.gmail.com’ into the ‘Incoming mail server’ field.
– SMTP server: Type ‘smtp.gmail.com’ into ‘Outgoing mail server (smtp)’ field. - Enter your Logon Information details below:
– Username: Ensure your ‘User Name’ is your UWA Student Email address, not just your student number.
– Password: Enter your Pheme password in the ‘Password’ field.
– Remember password: Ensure the ‘Remember password’ box is ticked.
– Tick box: Ensure the ‘Require logon using Secure Password Authentication (SPA)’ box is left unticked. - Click the ‘More Settings’ button.
- Do not click ‘Next’ yet.
- Enter a name for your email account in the Mail Account Inbox, e.g. UWA Student Email.
- Select the Outgoing Server tab.
- Check the box next to ‘My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication’ and select ‘Use same settings as my incoming mail server’.
- Select the Advanced tab.
- For both, select ‘Use the following types of encrypted connections’ SSL.
- For the Outgoing server (SMTP) box enter 465.
- Click ‘OK’.
- Back on the page where you entered your account details, click ‘Next’.
- After receiving ‘Congratulations, all tests successfully completed’, click ‘Close’.
- Click ‘Finish’.
- You are done. Outlook 2013 should now start downloading your emails.
Setup and Configure UWA Email on Android
To access your UWA Student Email through Mail on Android Devices, you will need IMAP enabled.
Check IMAP is enabled
- Sign in to your UWA student email via webmail.
- Click the cog icon in the upper right corner of the mailbox and select ‘Settings’ from the drop down menu.
- Click ‘Forwarding and POP/IMAP’.
- Select ‘Enable IMAP’.
- Select ‘Save Changes’.
Configuration Android Device
- Press the Phones menu button on the Android home screen.
- Then click ‘Settings’.
- Select the ‘Accounts’ tab and then select ‘Add Account.’
- From the list that appears select ‘Google’.
- When the following dialogue pops up select ‘Existing’.
- When prompted to sign in, enter the following credentials:
– Username: Enter your student email address, i.e. username@student.uwa.edu.au.
– Password: Choose your Pheme password. - Then hit the ‘next’ triangle in the bottom right hand corner.
- You will be asked to accept the Terms and Services and the Privacy Policy.
- Click ‘OK’.
- Your account will now start signing in.
- At the ‘Google Services’ prompt click the ‘next’ triangle in the bottom right hand corner.
- You are done.
- You should now see ‘Account sign in successful’.
- Click the ‘next’ triangle in the bottom right hand corner to finish the process.
Setup and Configure UWA Email on Mozila Thunderbird
To access your UWA Student Email through Mail onMozila Thunderbird, you will need IMAP enabled.
Check IMAP is enabled
- Sign in to your UWA student email via webmail.
- Click the cog icon in the upper right corner of the mailbox and select ‘Settings’ from the drop down menu.
- Click ‘Forwarding and POP/IMAP’.
- Select ‘Enable IMAP’.
- Select ‘Save Changes’.
Configuring Thunderbird
- Open Thunderbird.
- Select ‘Local Folders’ on the left, and then click Create New Account: Email.
- Click ‘Skip this and use my existing email’ in the new pop-up.
- Enter the following details:
– Your Name: Enter the name you want to appear on emails that you send.
– E-mail Address: Enter your UWA Student Email address (ie. 12345678@student.uwa.edu.au).
– Password: Choose your Pheme password. - Click ‘Continue’.
- Then click on the ‘Manual config’ button.
- From the ‘Incoming’ drop down menu, select ‘IMAP’.
- Enter the following details:
– Incoming Server Hostname: imap.gmail.com
– Incoming Port: 993
– Outgoing Server Hostname: smtp.gmail.com
– Outgoing Port: 465
– From both SSL drop down menus, select ‘SSL/TLS’.
– From both Authentication drop down menus, select ‘Normal password’. - Click ‘Done’.
- Your email will now start downloading.
- Click ‘Inbox’ from the left column to go to your email.
How to Add Signature on UWA webmail?
- Select Options from the Tools menu.
- Then select the Mail Format tab.
- Click on the Signatures button.
- Click on the New button.
- Enter a name for the signature you wish to create, click on the Next button.
- Enter the text you want for your signature.
- Then click Finish.
- Click Apply, Click OK and you are done.
