- Visit this link www.gla.ac.uk/webmail.
- Click on the ‘Login to webmail‘ option.
- And a new such tab will open in front of you.
- Then enter your University email address and password in the field.
- Last click on the ‘Sign in‘ button.
You Sign in using your University email address and your GUID password. If you have an apostrophe in your email address, you will need to remove it.

They do not use POP email at all.
They use only secure IMAP (IMAPS) which requires the IMAP server port to be set to 993. This happens automatically in some email clients when SSL certificate is selected, in others you have to set it explicitly.
For IT Techs setting up servers that send email, please use the Smart-host feature of the MTA of your choice, setup with the Smart-host as mail-relay.physics.gla.ac.uk on port 25.
Setup Your Device for MyGlasgow University Email
Due to the wide range of devices in use, they can’t provide step-by-step guide for every one. The following steps guide will work for most devices though.
- On your device, open your preferred email application.
- Set up a new Exchange account.
- Enter the following details:
– Username: enter your University email address (Apostrophe in your email address? Leave it out!)
– Password: choose your GUID password
– Server name (if prompted): outlook.office365.com
The UofG remote desktop Tips and Advice
- Do not save anything on the desktop because it will not be available to you on a normal workstation. Use your M: or K: drive instead.
- From inside the UofG remote desktop page, you can’t work on files stored on the device you’re using and you can only access/save/modify/delete files on your M: of K: drive.
- You can’t add your own programs to the remote desktop.
- You should be able to print to your local printer.
- At the end of your session, log out. If you just close the client window this will leave your UofG remote desktop session running. Eventually it will shut down automatically, but you will lose any unsaved data.

How to Share Calendars on The University of Glasgow webmail?
By keeping your Outlook calendar up-to-date and sharing your availability, topics and locations, you’ll be able to help colleagues schedule meetings to suit and build all the invitees in time for people to get from one location to the next. For meetings where the subject is confidential, you can make the event Private to share your availability only.
Windows Outlook 2016
- Right-click your calendar in the left navigation pane and select Properties.
- Select the Permissions tab.
- Under Name select Default.
- From the Permission Level dropdown list select Free/Busy time, subject, location.
- Click OK.
Mac Outlook 2016
- Open Calendar.
- Select Calendar Permissions from the toolbar.
- Under User select Default.
- Select Free / Busy Time, Subject and Location from the drop down list.
- Click OK.
About Spam Filter Email in MyGlasgow (The University of Glasgow)
Every week the University’s spam filter a tool called SpamAssassin keeps 1.5 million spam emails out of the inboxes.
SpamAssassin scans and incoming emails for features that are commonly found in spam resources. UofG Emails that score more than 8 are rejected. For scores between 5 and 8, the email is delivered but with (Spam) added to the subject line.
Help Improve the Filter
If a spam email reaches you without the Spam, flag in the subject line, you can help improve and refine the filter to recognise similar spam in future.
- Copy the spam email’s header information.
- Forward the offending email.
- Paste the header information at the beginning of the forwarded email.
- Send to antispam@gla.ac.uk.
Emails forwarded in this way will be examined, however please note that they may not be able to reply to individual items of spam forwarded.
Email messages contain header information that is useful when determining the origin of a message. Details of the route the message has taken during delivery are also available. Most header information is hidden by default. However, it can easily be revealed.
