What is Oxford nexus webmail ?
Oxford University’s email service is known as the Nexus365 and is run by IT services. As soon as your university card is created, you will automatically register for an Oxford email account. Oxford nexus webmail is used to access your account.

The Nexus365 is a university example of the cloud-based Microsoft Office 365 service, which provides email, calendaring and access to other Office 365 applications, including OneDrive for Business, teams and forms.
If you have a Nexus365 email account, you will have automatic access to other Nexus365 tools available at the university.

Logging into the Nexus365 web portal
Log in to the Online Web Portal. Nexus365 accesses a number of other Office 365 applications, including email, calendaring and OneDrive, teams and forms. How to log in via the online web portal. You can also configure an email client to view your email and calendars.

Oxford Nexus Email POP or IMAP and SMTP Server Settings
Set up email apps and clients on your iPhone or iPad, Android device, Windows and Apple Mac computers to access your Nexus365 email mailbox.
Email Client Settings
The general settings for configuring alternative mail clients are:
POP3 (incoming mail)

If requested, your authentication type will need to be OAuth2.

To change the Sending Server (SMPT) settings in the Mail app on your Mac:

You must ensure that secure connections are selected for both incoming mail and outgoing mail. Multiple email accounts can use the same outgoing SMTP server, so SMTP servers are created separately from email accounts.

How to Setup Oxford nexus webmail on Windows Outlook ?
The process to set up your Nexus365 account in Outlook 2016 is similar for many versions of Outlook.
- Open Outlook.
- If necessary, select File > Add Account and at the welcome screen click Next.
- Select Yes to set up an email account, then click Next.
- Provide your name and University email address, then click Next.
- Wait for Outlook to configure, this can take a few minutes.
- When prompted through the Windows Security box, replace the email address with your Oxford username email abcd1234@OX.AC.UK and your single sign-on password.
- You may be prompted for multi-factor authentication.
- If so, complete your multi-factor authentication process.
- Select Finish to complete the account setup.
- When Outlook is opened, you will be prompted again for your username and password and for multi-factor authentication, which should be given in the format mentioned above.
During setup you may be presented with a Webauth SSO window, usually logged in using your SSO username and password.
Setup Oxford nexus email on Windows Outlook 365
License to download and use Office 365 Suite is included with most Nexus365 accounts. The process for setting up your Nexus365 account using Outlook 365 is as follows.
- Open Outlook.
- If necessary, select File > Add Account.
- Provide your University email address, then click Connect.
- Enter your Oxford username and single sign-on password on the Oxford SSO window.
- You may be prompted for multi-factor authentication.
If you are asked for your Microsoft account details, enter your SSO username followed by @OX.AC.UK (for example abcd1234@OX.AC.UK and your SSO password.
Setup Oxford nexus webmail on Windows Microsoft Mail App
The process for setting the default Windows Mail app is as follows:
- Open the Mail app.
- Select Accounts > Add account > Exchange.
- Provide your University email address, then click Next.
- You can provide your SSO password, then click on the Sign in button.
- Enter the following information whenever requested:
– Username: enter your Oxford username plus @OX.AC.UK (for example abcd1234@OX.AC.UK)
– Password: choose your Single Sign-On password
– Domain: leave this field blank - When something went wrong, the message is displayed, click Advanced.
- Provide the additional information whenever requested:
– Server: outlook.office365.com
– Account name: Description of your choice - On the confirmation screen click Done.
During setup you may be presented with an Oxford SSO window, usually logged in using your Oxford username and a single sign-on password. You may be prompted for multi-factor authentication.
Setup Oxford nexus email on Windows Thunderbird
These guidelines will enable you to set up your Office 365 Exchange account for use with a Mozilla Thunderbird email client after setting up multi-factor authentication in your primary account.
Setup Nexus365 Account
- Open Thunderbird, and click the menu option.
- Click New.
- Select Existing Mail Account.
- On the Set Up Your Existing Email Address box, enter your name, your Oxford Username instead of your email address, and your Single Sign On password.
- Click Continue.
- If it fails to find the settings an error message will be displayed, Thunderbird failed to find settings for your email account, click Advanced configure.
- Click OK The Account Settings window will now open Under Server and Security Settings, complete the following:
– Server name: outlook.office365.com
– Port: 993
– Username: choose your Oxford username e.g. abcd1234@OX.AC.UK
– Connection Security: SSL/TLS
– Authentication method: OAuth2 - Click Outgoing Server (SMTP).
- Click Edit on the corresponding account entry in Outgoing Server (SMTP) settings.
- A new box opens for SMTP Server.
- Add a name for your account in the description field and complete all other fields:
– Server name: outlook.office365.com
– Port: 587
– Connection Security: STARTTLS
– Authentication method: Normal password (This will need to be changed to OAuth2 later)
– Username: Your Oxford username e.g. abcd1234@OX.AC.UK - Click OK.
- Tap Edit once again on the corresponding account entry in Outgoing Server (SMTP) settings.
- The SMTP Server box opens.
- Click the Authentication method drop down list.
- Change the selection from a normal password to OAuth2 so that it is now the selected authentication method.
- Press OK.
- Click Home, Local Folders or Inbox in the top left.
- Click your Inbox folder and your email will begin to populate.
- Enter your password and click Sign in.
- If prompted click Accept on the Permissions requested screen.
- Your primary email account is now set up.
Configure Oxford Nexus365 Email MAC OS Apple Mail App
The process to set up Apple’s Mail app is as follows:
- Open the Mail app.
- Select Mail > Accounts > Exchange.
- If the email account is already set up, click the + button under the list of accounts to add your Nexus365 account.
- Provide the following details whenever requested, then sign in:
– Name: enter your name
– Email address: enter your full University email address
– Password: choose your SSO password - If Unable to verify account name or password is displayed, provide the following additional details, then Next:
– User Name: enter your SSO username plus @OX.AC.UK (for example abcd1234@OX.AC.UK) - Provide the following additional details, then Sign in:
– Internal URL: outlook.office365.com (you may need to try with or without https://)
– External URL: leave this field blank - Select the services using the account, then Done.
- Select Mail > Preferences > Accounts > Email address > + (plus sign), then add your University email address as a sender address.
- When composing a new email, access the From drop down menu and select your address.
Setup or Configure Nexus365 Email Account on Android
The Exchange account will no longer be present on your account. Adding an Office 365 email account to an Android mail client with multi-factor authentication.
- On your Android device, open the Mail App.
- Click Exchange in the Add Account screen.
- Enter your Oxford email address in full. This will include the letters you usually include after the @ symbol (e.g. @it.ox.ac.uk).
– Username: enter a Username (optional).
– Email Address: enter your email password. - Click ‘Sign In’.
- A second Exchange window will populate asking if you want to use Microsoft.
- Click OK.
- Enter your Oxford username, your username will need to be entered as follows: abcd1234@OX.AC.UK Oxford username.
- The field may self-populate with your email address.
- Make sure you delete this and replace it with your single sign-on username as explained.
- The Oxford Single Sign-On password page appears.
- Enter your Single Sign-On password.
- You will be prompted for your multi-factor authentication method.
- Complete your multi-factor process.
- Choose whether to activate the device administrator.
- Wait for your emails to sync.
- Your account has been successfully set-up.
Exporting mail from Outlook to a file on Oxford Nexus365
You can export all your mail to a file that can then be copied to another organization across the network or written to a CD or DVD. In Outlook 2010 you can do the following.
- Open File.
- Click on the ‘Options’.
- Tap Advanced.
- Click Export.
- Click on the Export button.
- Export to a file.
- Outlook Data File (.pst).
- Select your mailbox and ensure that the Include subfolders box is ticked.
- Save exported file as:
– Browse to where you want to save it and give it a name - Click Finish.
Once you have done that copy the file to a safe location. You can also copy it on to a CD or DVD for archiving or to take away with you. You can later import mail from another file to another mailbox e.g. using the Import facility in Outlook.
While your Physics account is still active you can do all this on TERMSERVQC if you do not have a Windows system with Outlook 2010.
