What is BU Webmail ?

BU Webmail Login
The easy, centralized way to access BU Google Mail or Exchange. No one at BU (Boston University) will ever ask you for your password in email account, Don’t become a victim of identity theft.
BU webmail can be logged in two ways, one through BU Google Mail and Office 365.
- First open this webpage link.
- Click here to login with BU Google Mail.

– Enter your email address and password in this field.
– And click on the ‘Sign in’ button.
Boston University Faculty, Staff and Student Login Password Reset
- To reset your password, visit www.bu.edu/kerberos, enter your existing Kerberos password, and then choose a new password.
- If you enter your old password correctly, your password will be reset and you are all set.
- However, if you enter your password incorrectly and can’t remember it, click the Forgot Login or Password field at the bottom of the Password field.
– Enter your last name and BU login name and then click on Forgot Password.
– Enter your BU name and choose a new Kerberos password.
– Then click Continue. - Once you have chosen a new password, you will be asked to confirm the account that on file for you.
- In addition, you must agree that you understand the importance of protecting your identity.
- After successfully resetting the password, you will see the following screen for information showing your BU ID to confirm your identity.
If you are unable to show your ID in person, you should contact the IT Help Center to make other arrangements for providing your identification.
BU Webmail IMAP and SMTP (POP) server settings
If you have configured and setup a non-BU web-based mail service (e.g. Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail etc) to use POP server in order to download mail from BU (Boston University), you should remove the acs-pop setting using the interface provided by the service.
If you have configured any desktop mail clients to use POP Server, you will need to change that setting, as described below. You should not delete the Current and POP Server Account in your mail program.

- Account Name, User name, or Email address: Your full email address
- Password: Your Gmail password
Configure Email Client
- Enter your full BU (Boston University) email address as the username in the form login@bu.edu (NOT used just login and not as login@gmail.bu.edu).
- The IMAP server for incoming mail is imap.gmail.com. You should use that with port 993 (SSL) and your BU Kerberos password.
- The SMTP server for outgoing mail is smtp.bu.edu. Use that with authenticated SSL (port 465) by providing your BU login name and Kerberos password.
When you send mail to yourself in BU Google Apps via a desktop or device email client, the message will only appear in your Sent Mail folder and not the Inbox.
Setup BU Email Account on Windows Phone 7

- Select IMAP server.
- Select your login@bu.edu e-mail address in the Username field in that format (NOT as just login or as login@gmail.bu.edu).
- Issue imap.gmail.com in the IMAP Server field, 993 in the Port field, and SSL for the Security type.
- Click Next.
- Enter smtp.bu.edu in the SMTP Server field, 465 in the Port field, SSL for the Security type, BU e-mail address in the Username field.
- Your Kerberos password in the Password field.
- Click on the Next button.
- Select how often you want your smartphone to check for new mail.
- Tap Next.
- Optionally, give the account a name. Also enter your name as you’d like it displayed on outgoing mail.
- Click Done.
- You may now access your mail through the Email app in your app drawer.
Setup BU Email Account on Mozilla Thunderbird

- If you’ve ever created folders on the server (for example, with Horde), you should now see those folders listed.
- If you don’t see them, it should help to go to File-Subscribe and make sure they are listed.

- It’s best to move messages at a time and only take useful messages that need to be accessed centrally.
- Click on the IMAP account name (probably imap.bu.edu) and then select IMAP Folders.
- Click ‘Subscribe’ to make sure they are listed.
BU (Boston University) General Email instructions
The process of moving from POP server to IMAP server will be similar, regardless of which desktop mail program you are use. If the specific steps above do not include your mail program, please see to this summary as a general guideline.
You need to delete the current / POP server account in your mail program. In fact, if you do, it could make things more complicated by removing access to your existing local messages. Instead, you want to keep it as an archive of previous messages and, using the following instructions, configure your mail client to be read by the IMAP server:
- Step 1
Disable the POP ‘Account’ in your mail program so that it no longer checks for new mail. Do this by making sure it doesn’t check mail starting and doesn’t check mail every X minutes. If you have your password configured in the settings, you should remove your pre-set password. - Step 2
Close the mail program and launch it again. Do not give a password if prompted and which you shouldn’t be just click on Cancel. - Step 3
Set up the new IMAP server ‘Account’ in your mail program. BU’s IMAP server and you should use it with SSL port 993. - Step 4
Once the configuration is complete, you should now start using the IMAP server on the version of your ACS account. If you wish to upload specific messages from your old/local Inbox into your new ACS Inbox or so that they will be available from elsewhere you can do that simply by dragging them. To select in doing that, however, as your Inbox is now subject to quota restrictions and you don’t want to overload it.
Import BU Webmail Contacts into Outlook
You can move your Address or Contacts list to use it with Exchange from a variety of alternate email programs. Your Contacts list will be stored centrally, making it available to you via Outlook, Microsoft Outlook Web Access (OWA) and your Exchange-compliant devices such as the iPhone, Blackberry or Android Device. Follow the instructions on this page for assistance.
Eudora or Outlook Express (Windows)
- Can import contacts from Eudora or Outlook Express using the built-in in Outlook process.
- Go to File Open Import.
- Then select the option to import Internet mail and addresses.
- The Import Wizard will then guide you through the steps required.
Thunderbird (Windows or Mac)
- Open your Thunderbird, then open the Address Book.
- Select the list you want to export.
- If you have more than one list, you will need to repeat this step for each.
- Choose Tools Export.
- Give the file a name and indicate that you want to Save as type: Comma Separated.
- Click on Desktop (to save it to Desktop).
- And then Save.
BU Horde
After you transfer to the Exchange, no mail will come to your Hoard or ACS account. However, you will still have access Horde in order to retrieve things like address information or the parameters for your filters/rules.
- Log in to Horde at www.bu.edu/webmail.
- Go to your Contacts list and choose All by clicking in the top box to the left (You can also make individual selections if you donat want to export every address).
- Click Export and choose Comma Separated Values.
- Then click on the Export button.
- Look for the resulting file, called Contacts. Will be called CSV.
- If it’s not on your Desktop, then check your Browser’s Downloads folder.
Outlook 2011
- Go to File Import.
- Select Contacts or messages from a text file, and then click the right arrow to continue.
- Select Import Contacts from a tab (CSV) and then click the right arrow to continue.
- Locate and select the .csv file (that you saved as an export, probably to the Desktop).
- And then click Import.
- Click OK.
Outlook 2010
- Go to File Open Import.
- Select Import from Another Program or File and click Next.
- Select Comma Separated Values (Windows).
- And click Next.
- Browse to locate and select the .csv file (that you saved as an export, probably to the Desktop).
- Click on the CSV file to select it and click on the OK button.
- Select the import option that you prefer, and then click Next.
- Select the destination folder for the addresses you are importing.
- Most likely, this will be your Contacts folder.
- Click Next.
- Click the Map Custom Fields button and match up the corresponding From and To fields so that the contact information you are importing gets correctly placed into the corresponding field in Contacts.
- When you are finished, click OK.
- Click Finish and your contacts will import into Outlook.
How to Add Signature on BU email?
Your email messages contain instructions for using a signature like this, written for Outlook 2011 on Mac. The instructions for a PC are similar.
- Your Outlook, click on New, then E-mail Message.
- In the menu at the top, click on Drafts, then Signatures, then Edit Signatures.
- If you choose, or edit your ‘standard’ signature, you can sign a new one.
- Here I’ve made one named ‘BU Study Abroad’.
- Click on the + icon to create a new one.
- Next, copy the signature block shown on this webpage.
- And paste it into the signature box like I’ve done above.
- Click on the red x to close the signature window.
- Now, whenever you write a new message, you can insert the signature.
- And it will put the signature in the message.
- For Outlook on PC, go to File> Options> Mail> Signatures.
- You can then copy and paste the signature and edit it with your information.
- Just note that you have to be using HTML format as opposed to the plain text format.
